Christhina Candido is an architect by training, holding a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) and a PhD in Environmental Science from Macquarie University (Australia). She has developed a strong international profile in the fields of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), workspace design, and climate-responsive design in tropical and subtropical climates.
Christhina collaborates closely with industry and government stakeholders, including the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), and the US-based International WELL Building Standard.
She leads the SHE (Sustainable and Healthy Environments) Lab, a collaborative initiative between the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney. The Lab conducts applied research focused on enhancing sustainability and health through the design of high-performance spaces. SHE Lab is deeply committed to supporting the career development of female early career researchers (ECRs) from diverse backgrounds.
The Lab fosters a robust research network involving partners from the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Griffith University, and University College London (UCL). Together, they contribute to multidisciplinary, large-scale projects funded by industry, state government, and the Australian Research Council (ARC).
Christhina also leads and contributes to the SHE and BOSSA POE surveys, which support ongoing data collection on the design, performance, and occupant experience of built environments. These tools enable the identification of long-term trends across the Australian Corporate Real Estate sector and beyond.
